Pickleball is a paddle sport played on a court roughly a third the size of a tennis court, using a solid paddle and a perforated plastic ball. It borrows from tennis, badminton and table tennis, and is easy enough to learn in a single session — which is why it's the fastest-growing sport in the world.
There are fourteen active pickleball venues across Sri Lanka. In Colombo: Rally Pickle, Colombo Pickle Club, The Pickle Island at Arcade Independence, The Pickle Island at Excel (T. B. Jayah Mawatha), Air Sports Club (Rajagiriya), Picklebee by 71, The Pickle Island at Battaramulla, PicklePoint, What The Pickle and The Pickle Factory. In Boralesgamuwa: Misfits Arena and Misfits Pickleball (both open 24 hours). In Negombo: Pipinya Pickleball Negombo. On the south coast: Coconut Court at Ahangama. The full, map-linked list is in the Courts and Locations sections above.
In Colombo itself: Rally Pickle (Melder Place, ★5.0), Colombo Pickle Club (Torrington Avenue, ★4.9), The Pickle Island at Arcade Independence Square, The Pickle Island at Excel (T. B. Jayah Mawatha, Colombo 10 — 9 AM to 12 AM daily), Picklebee by 71 (E.W. Perera Mawatha — open until 4 AM), PicklePoint on Daham Mawatha, What The Pickle and The Pickle Factory (both late-night). Rajagiriya hosts Air Sports Club with 10 dedicated indoor courts. Battaramulla has The Pickle Island's 3-court facility. Just south in Boralesgamuwa, Misfits Arena and Misfits Pickleball are open 24 hours. All take bookings by phone or Instagram.
Sri Lanka's first dedicated pickleball club, Pipinya, opened in Moratuwa on 27 January 2024. It was founded by Fazi Jameel, Zafi Jameel and Dilan Hamid. The Pickle Island followed later that year at Arcade Independence, founded by Ronali and Dilshan Michael.
Typical court rental at established venues is around LKR 4,000 per hour per court — which works out cheap when split across four doubles players. Most clubs also run beginner nights and open-play sessions at a lower per-player rate, with paddles and balls loaned for free.
No. Every venue listed on pickle.lk provides loaner paddles and balls for new players. Just bring court shoes (non-marking soles) and water. If you fall in love with the game, paddles in Sri Lanka start around LKR 8,000.
Yes — Sri Lanka has hosted more than eight competitive pickleball events since 2024, including the Skechers Pickleball Grand Slam presented by Vibe by Abans. Tournaments are typically split by DUPR rating so beginners compete against beginners.
Extremely. The rules take ten minutes to learn, the smaller court makes rallies easier to sustain, and most clubs run dedicated beginner nights where someone will walk you through serve, scoring and the "kitchen" rule. Many players are rallying in their first session.
No. Padel is played on an enclosed glass-walled court with a stringed racquet and a depressurised tennis ball. Pickleball uses a solid paddle, a plastic ball, and an open court with no walls. The learning curve for pickleball is significantly gentler.
Sri Lankan pickleball tournaments use the global DUPR (Dynamic Universal Pickleball Rating) system. Every tournament match you play adjusts your rating, and brackets are drawn by rating band so you'll be matched with players at your level.
